There is a selection of kite books below.
During our travels in Europe we have made many friends and got to know
a little bit about some of the local culture, cuisine and alcoholic drinks. In
addition to kite books we have a selection of guide and general information
books including Belgium and Northern France. Others will be available through our
Hot News page and will eventually be
catalogued here.
The
Kite Rider - Geraldine McCaughrean (March 2001) - ISBN: 0192718606)
OK, this is a
kid's novel, but it won one of the major awards in the 2001 BBC Blue Peter
Childrens Books Awards. Up and up the wind drew him. Haoyou could hear the fibres of the rope
creaking. Perhaps his kite would burst apart. Perhaps there would be no air to
breathe at the top of the sky. They called him Gou Tian, Sky Hook, the boy who
flies. No one had ever seen anything like it. Crowds flocked to the Jade Circus
to see the Bird Boy, the Sun Swallow, Ride-the-Evening-Cloud. But it's not just
being strapped to a kite and sent up into the sky that is dangerous for Haoyou.
Beyond the horizon, an army is travelling east towards the circus, the army of
Khublai Khan. If the show isn't good enough, the Khan will cut his head off.
The
Magnificent Book of Kites - Maxwell Eden (September 2000
- ISBN: 0806949902) Previously package and published as Kiteworks, this book has
now been updated and republished. In the authors own words, "I'm extremely
pleased to see how well the publisher (Black Dog & Leventhal) has updated
and redesigned my kite book (formerly Kiteworks) for a whole new generation and
millennium of kite fliers. ... . The book also has updated information on
designing kites on your computer (Macintosh & Windows), and a section on
kite Web sites-a vast resource of information on the World Wide Web for kite
enthusiasts."
How
to Make and Fly Stunt Kites - Jeremy Boyce (April
1999 - ISBN 0752524356)- This book is by Jeremy Boyce who was a member of the World Class
team Airkraft. The graphics on the cover do not reflect the image of a
"radical" sport. However the content is modern. There are chapters on
equipment, flying techniques, competition figures and routines as well as some
plans for kites that you can make for yourself. There is even a photograph
on page 42 showing Crosslines preparing to go into the competition
arena. This package is very inexpensive and you get a free kite as well as
the book for your money.
