Oostduinkerke 1999

This year was the 14th year of this informal and friendly event.

International Event

Team Sport kiting was represented by Bi Dance, Punchline and Crosslines from the UK together with the Red Barons (from Luxembourg and Switzerland). There was also a fair few indi sport kite flyers as well as the single liners (Manja Club well represented) and ther e was plenty of power kiting, both on land in buggies and on boards on the sea.

Highlife Disbanded

We were disappointed to find that Highlife a Belgium team an friends and adversaries for a number of years are no more, due to several team members having conflicting work commitments. There should however be another pairs team on the scene shortly.

The weather was varied. There was very heavy rain on Friday evening, which caused some problems for some of us driving up from Calais.

On Saturday there was blustery wind in the arena but smooth strong breeze further down the beach.

Fickle Wind

On Sunday morning the wind was off-shore coming through the gaps in the buildings making life very difficult in the arena. Just as the sport kite demos were about to start the wind that veered through 180 degrees and became a light clean breeze off the sea (hooray!). Unfortunately before anyone could get started the wind dropped off to virtually nothing (Boo! Hiss!!).

However we all had a good time and we all came away with a sun tan. Well done Nest, and all your team. We look forward to seeing what the 15th Oostduinkerke has in store.(May '99)
