| Brixham '99 Brixham Flooded Crosslines arrived in Brixham in buoyant mood on Sunday evening following a win at Bath earlier in the day. Our hosts Alex and Sheena from local action sports shop Mission Actionsport should however have been in less good mood. The weekend's thunderstorms had caused flash foods in town and their shop had for a while been under 8 inches of water.
However, by the time we met the insurance man had been and they were feeling a little more relaxed and ready for a good day at Berry Head the next day. Long Eared Bats and Cow Poo Berry Head is a nature reserve and noted as a habitat for the long eared bat. Controversially and much to the chagrin of some of the local population the local conservation body had recently decided to introduce a small herd of cattle in the field that we were to use. On arriving at the site we found it to be covered with wet knee height grass and cow poo. The cattle had not been moved and were hiding in the grass in one corner of the field. Any way the show must go on. The afternoon saw the overcast, rainy weather of the previous few days melt away and a reasonable crowd turned out to see what can be done with various configurations of string, ripstop nylon, carbon fibre rod and wind. |
