| Winter Leagues A good way of getting into competitive kite flying is to go along to your local winter league. These events are always friendly and novice flyers are always welcome. The individual leagues usually take place over three weeks with the best two scores counting. There are categories for individual dual line at novice, experienced and masters classes. This year leagues are increasingly including pairs, team and multi-line disciplines. There is something for everyone to see and lots of encouragement to enter. If you can get to several leagues the points are included in a UK league ranking system which promotes flyers to a league cup final at in the spring (provisionally to be at Blackheath on Easter Bank Holiday weekend). Crosslines attended week one of the Blackheath league meeting. The conditions were uncharacteristic for the time of the year with clear blue skies but very little wind. However there was a very good turn out, but due to lack of competition Crosslines had to fly the team round on their own. Hopefully Vortex and some other competition will be about for the next rounds. If you are interested in checking out the winter leagues have a look at the STACK UK site where you will get more information and a calendar of events. Otherwise come along to Blackheath on the next two weekends 23 and 30 January 2000. |
