| Bristol 2000 The Bristol International Kite Festival is always a very well attended event. There is always plenty to see and as a result the people of Bristol come to see what's going on in there thousands. The festival has two arenas one for static single line displays and the other for all sorts of demos. International representatives included, but not exclusively, (sorry if we missed you out) the Bay Area Sundowners dual line team from USA, Peter Lyne kite designer from New Zealand and the European Kite Art Gallery. Domestic representation included, again not exclusively, the Decorators, Flying Squad, Evolver and of course Crosslines. The Bay Area Sundowners put on a spectacular show with either four or six person teams each flying stacks of 12 kites with 40ft tails. The difference between the four and six person teams was Mark and Jeanette Lummas, ex of Sky Dance the UK based World Championship team! Mark & Jeanette are now living in the States and have practised with the Sundowners on many occasions. Crosslines presented this years ballet in light wind conditions. Breaking away from the norm Crosslines also debut a new set of rokkaku kites sporting different coloured team logos, described by the commentary team as FatFace kites! Keith James won one of the rounds although he was introduces to the spectators as Clive James. Not content with dual and single line kites Crosslines were also seen putting in some practice with four line Revolution kites could this be an indication of things to come? The weather over the weekend was very pleasant despite the heavy rain immediately preceding it. Well done to Avril Baker and all her team for organising another very successful event. (Sept 2000) |
